The health and fitness club “Kalamazoo Athletic Club” is located in the lower level of the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo Michigan.

The extent of the changes include relocating and expanding the aerobic exercise area, renovating the pool, expanding the fitness area, and reorganizing and relocating the locker rooms. The project also includes raising the ceiling in the pool area and providing faux skylights to improve lighting and reduce the “basement feel” of the space.

A waterfall feature was also added to the pool as a visual focal point and to provide a source for white noise. This white noise helps reduce acoustical problems that are typical with this type of facility. Finally, a 4,000-gallon salt-water reef aquarium is being installed between the health club and the adjacent hotel corridor.
